🧠 Role Summary

Discord is looking for a Data Engineer to join its Data team and help build high-leverage data pipelines and foundational datasets that empower analytics, data science, modeling, experimentation, and product development.

This role directly shapes the way Discord understands product success, user behavior, and decision-making by ensuring clean, scalable, and performant data infrastructure.

✅ What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and maintain data pipelines to support analytics, modeling, and product decision-making
• Design scalable database architectures for complex, high-volume data
• Improve the coverage and reliability of instrumentation with engineering and data science partners
• Build and monitor audits and anomaly detection systems to ensure data quality
• Build dashboards and automated reports for business stakeholders
• Work cross-functionally with product teams, engineers, and data scientists

🧩 What You Should Have

• 2+ years of experience building data pipelines at scale
• 2+ years of developing and maintaining data models (structured & unstructured data)
• Strong skills in SQL and Python (production-grade data work)
• Experience with data quality validation at scale (billions of rows)
• Skilled in ETL optimization, pipeline cost reduction, and dashboard performance tuning
• Effective communicator, capable of thriving in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments
• Strong collaborative mindset and genuine curiosity about data and users

💡 Bonus Points

• Familiarity with or passion for Discord or online communities
• Experience owning and evolving domain-level data models
• Experience working closely with product engineers and data scientists
• Proficiency with BigQuery, Looker, Airflow, DBT (or equivalents)
• Experience with data infrastructure for experimentation or A/B testing
• Exposure to ads data pipelines or third-party data integration
