Role Overview

IMC is building a new Database Engineering team in Amsterdam to design and operate the core database infrastructure powering global trading systems. This role focuses on building high-performance, scalable, and reliable database services—starting with Postgres on Kubernetes and expanding across various data technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage Postgres infrastructure in Kubernetes (tuning, scaling, availability)
• Support RDBMS, columnar, and time-series databases
• Collaborate with infra, storage, and platform teams to optimize performance
• Implement backup/recovery, observability, and lifecycle automation
• Mentor a junior engineer and help build out a new team
• Work across the tech stack from Linux tuning to Python-based tooling

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years in database, systems, or infrastructure engineering
• Expertise in Postgres, especially in production
• Strong experience with Kubernetes for database deployments
• Solid Linux knowledge (performance tuning, memory, I/O)
• Familiarity with a range of DB types: RDBMS, NoSQL, time-series
• Comfortable with Python scripting and infrastructure automation
• Able to design and implement reliable, scalable systems in complex environments
• Leadership/mentorship experience is a strong plus

Bonus/Preferred Tools

• Airflow, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Prometheus, Grafana
• Python or Java DB access libraries

Team & Travel

• Reporting to the Data Engineering Lead
• Will mentor a junior engineer (team-building role)
• Occasional travel to other IMC offices (Chicago, Mumbai, Sydney)
