Now, we’re seeking a Director of Engineering, Data Platform to lead and scale our data infrastructure, empowering every team—from Product to ML—with robust tools and systems to make data-driven decisions.

In this strategic leadership role, you’ll shape the future of Discord’s data ecosystem, influence company-wide initiatives, and drive technical excellence across our Data Platform function.

🎯 What You'll Be Doing

• Define and lead the technical roadmap and strategic vision for Discord’s Data Platform.
• Mentor and manage a growing team of engineering leaders and individual contributors.
• Drive technical innovation across data engineering, architecture, and system reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Core Tech, Product Engineering, and ML Platform.
• Build a high-performance engineering culture grounded in curiosity, impact, and growth.

✅ What You Should Have

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 6+ years in technical leadership.
• 3+ years of experience managing engineering managers.
• Proven success in designing and scaling large-scale data platforms.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems and technologies like Kafka, Spark, BigQuery.
• Expertise with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Strong background in data governance, privacy, and compliance.
• Strategic mindset with excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
