About the Role

Discord is seeking a Director of Machine Learning for Trust & Safety, a leadership position within the Trust & Safety ML organization. You will oversee the development and deployment of advanced machine learning technologies that reduce harm, drive fraud prevention, and enhance content moderation. This role requires deep expertise in machine learning, data science, and trust and safety initiatives, with a focus on user protection across Discord’s platform. As the director, you will lead and mentor a talented team of ML scientists and engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams in legal, policy, and data to build scalable solutions that safeguard users.

What You'll Be Doing

• Drive the technical vision for Discord’s Safety ML stack, focusing on state-of-the-art ML technologies.
• Scale and organize teams across key areas including Trust & Safety, Fraud Prevention, and Content Moderation.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to drive safety initiatives and measure the impact of machine learning on user safety.
• Lead innovation in data sourcing and model development to improve key safety metrics.
• Provide technical guidance on ML architecture and infrastructure decisions.
• Mentor and grow technical leaders within the Safety ML organization.

What You Should Have

• 8+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in building ML products at scale.
• Proven success in driving Trust & Safety, Fraud Prevention, or Content Moderation initiatives.
• Strong track record of applying ML techniques to solve consumer-facing problems.
• Experience collaborating with Policy, Legal, and Trust & Safety teams.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business impact.
• Experience in scaling and organizing technical teams.

Salary and Benefits

• Base Salary: $342,000 to $376,150 + equity + benefits.
• Compensation is determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, and job-related training.
