About the Role:

This position is for an Engineering Manager to join Coinbase’s Trading team, working on building and scaling core systems for crypto trading. This includes developing features and infrastructure for various trading products like Simple Trade, Advanced Trade, Derivatives, and Decentralized (DEX) trading. You'll be part of building a seamless, secure trading experience at the intersection of crypto, trading infrastructure, and consumer products.

Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Manage and guide full-stack engineering teams to develop features and infrastructure across both web and mobile platforms
• Coaching & Mentoring: Support the career growth of your direct reports, helping them grow as engineers and leaders
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and leadership to create a clear roadmap and break down complex projects
• Technical Decision-Making: Act as a technical leader, making thoughtful architectural decisions and ensuring high-quality code and engineering processes
• Recruitment: Partner with the talent team to identify and recruit exceptional engineers who align with Coinbase’s culture
• Engineering Quality & SLAs: Own processes to maintain engineering quality and meet service-level agreements (SLAs)
• System Architecture: Design robust, scalable systems for high-performance crypto trading globally
• Collaboration with Product & Design: Contribute to creating a best-in-class trading experience for Coinbase users
• Feature Development: Lead the execution of high-value features for customers

What We Look For in You:

• Experience:
• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience
• Software Engineering Excellence: Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes
• Execution Focus: Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results effectively
• Multi-Tenanted Distributed Systems: Experience building and maintaining large-scale systems
• Hands-On Experience: Capability to write/review code, lead incidents, and troubleshoot issues when necessary
• Passion for Crypto: Enthusiasm for building an open financial system through blockchain technology
• Product Excellence: High standards for product quality with strong observability practices
• Industry Best Practices: Keeping up-to-date with the latest industry standards and applying them in practice

Nice to Haves:

• Active Trading Systems Experience: Prior experience with high-availability trading systems
• Crypto Enthusiast: Actively trading crypto or other financial instruments
• Legacy System Re-architecture: Experience upgrading legacy systems or re-architecting existing systems for scale
• Tech Stack Experience: Familiarity with Golang, MongoDB, Redis
• Crypto-forward Experience: Experience with blockchain technology and interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, engaging with dApps, or blockchain-based services
