Role: Engineering Manager – Financial Platform

Location: US-based only

We’re seeking a technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Engineering Manager to lead the Financial Platform team at Discord. You’ll play a key role in driving business-critical systems for revenue accounting, tax, payout integrations, and support for new products like virtual currency. Leading a talented full-stack team, you’ll ensure Discord’s financial operations are transparent, scalable, and accurate, and you'll help accelerate product development by solving complex financial engineering problems.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead a High-Impact Team: Build and lead a motivated team of engineers, ensuring they thrive through coaching, mentoring, and fostering a culture of ownership.
• Shape Technical Strategy: Drive the technical vision and roadmap for the Financial Platform, collaborating with cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Accounting, Legal, and Tax.
• Design Scalable Solutions: Work with your team to develop solutions that support current revenue models at scale while enabling the rapid growth of new products.
• Deliver Technical Excellence: Leverage your expertise to ensure the team meets the highest technical standards and delivers extraordinary results.
• Make Informed Decisions: Provide clear rationale for resource allocation decisions and collaborate effectively with partners and your team to achieve success.
• Collaborate and Innovate: Work with Engineering leadership to continuously improve organizational processes and contribute to Discord’s workplace philosophy.

What You Should Have:

• Software Engineering Experience: 5+ years as a Software Engineer.
• Engineering Leadership: 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, successfully managing teams of 5+ Software Engineers.
• Strong Communication Skills: Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment across the organization.
• Platform Team Leadership: Proven track record leading platform teams and managing trade-offs to support both client teams and your own domain.
• First Principles Thinking: Ability to approach problems pragmatically and work with your team to develop effective solutions.
• Passion for Team Development: Motivated to help your team members grow and succeed, with a focus on coaching and leadership.
• Hands-On Technical Expertise: Passionate about leading engineers and willing to dive into code when the opportunity arises.

Base Salary Range (US): $223,000 - $245,500 + equity + benefits
