Role Overview

Lead Adyen’s local payment methods (LPM) strategy in Japan by managing relationships with key domestic partners such as PayPay, Rakuten Pay, convenience store payments, and Pay-easy. Drive growth, optimize integrations, and align cross-functional teams to deliver the best payment solutions for merchants.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage Adyen’s portfolio of Japanese local payment partners
• Define and execute long-term LPM strategy tailored to the Japanese market
• Collaborate with product and engineering on feature development and roadmap
• Support commercial teams and facilitate merchant onboarding and go-to-market readiness
• Negotiate favorable terms with payment partners
• Analyze partner performance and market trends for growth opportunities
• Educate internal teams on Japanese payment trends and nuances

Who You Are

• 8+ years in payments/fintech, with deep experience in Japanese domestic payment methods (QR wallets, BNPL, bank transfers, convenience store payments)
• Strong knowledge of Japan’s local payment ecosystem and partners
• Skilled at managing strategic and operational tasks, from long-term planning to merchant activation
• Excellent relationship builder, comfortable navigating Japanese corporate culture at all levels
• Proactive, organized, and able to handle complex projects independently
• Fluent in Japanese (native-level) and business English
• Passionate about enhancing merchant experience and local payments
