Job Overview:

The Protocol Research Analyst will conduct in-depth research on blockchain protocols, including Layer-1 and Layer-2 networks, DeFi protocols, tokenomics, and governance systems. The ideal candidate will be a crypto-native researcher with technical and analytical skills, capable of providing insights through blockchain data analysis, CEX trading activity, and market trends.

Key Responsibilities:

Protocol Research:

• Conduct in-depth research on Layer-1 and Layer-2 protocols, focusing on on-chain activity, tokenomics, governance, and ecosystem growth.
• Analyze protocol adoption trends using blockchain data, centralized exchange (CEX) data, and ecosystem development.
• Produce regular ecosystem updates to highlight key growth drivers, sectoral trends, and market impact.
• Engage with developers and protocol teams to incorporate primary insights into research.

Exchange & Market Research:

• Support Exchange Review and Benchmark reports, tracking liquidity, trading volumes, and CEX market structure.
• Use Google BigQuery, SQL, and Python to query datasets and build tools to monitor market trends.
• Provide insights into stablecoins, token trading behavior, and market activity, linking on-chain data to market shifts.

Content & Social Media:

• Write high-quality market insights for CoinDesk’s social media, newsletters, and reports.
• Share original analysis on crypto markets, protocol updates, and governance trends, engaging with the community.
• Present and defend research findings through written reports, interviews, or on social channels.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Crypto-native background with experience in blockchain projects (staking, governance, DeFi, NFTs).
• Strong understanding of Layer-1 and Layer-2 architectures, rollups, and governance mechanisms.
• Proficiency in Google BigQuery, SQL, and Python for querying blockchain and exchange datasets.
• Familiarity with on-chain data tools (e.g., Dune, Glassnode, Nansen) and trading data sources (e.g., CoinGecko).
• Excellent writing skills for both long-form research and concise market insights.
• Comfortable discussing and presenting research in public or media-facing settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong background in data analytics, financial markets, or crypto investment research.
• Experience in institutional-grade research, investment firms, or blockchain analytics.
• Experience in building dashboards, APIs, or market monitoring tools for crypto assets.
• Established presence in crypto media or governance forums.
