The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead initiatives that optimize infrastructure, data, and machine learning costs across Discord. In this high-impact role, you will drive cost-efficiency programs, shape the platform's cost observability tools, and partner with product and engineering leaders to ensure sustainable growth.

What You’ll Do

• Optimize Infrastructure Costs: Collaborate with infrastructure, data, and ML teams to uncover and implement strategies to reduce spend.
• Drive Query & Data Efficiency: Work with data teams to identify high-cost workloads and streamline data access and analytics operations.
• Perform Cost-to-Serve Analysis: Provide actionable insights into the cost of running core Discord features, helping guide product and engineering decisions.
• Build Cost Attribution Systems: Help design a scalable platform for tracking cost metadata, supporting visibility, accountability, and alerting.
• Capacity Planning & Vendor Management: Lead cloud vendor negotiations, forecast capacity needs, and ensure cost alignment.
• Partner Across Product Teams: Serve as a strategic consultant to evaluate the financial implications of new features and architecture decisions.

What You Bring

• Strong data analysis capabilities, including building dashboards and identifying cost trends.
• Experience managing cost-focused programs within mid-to-large scale environments.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with a track record of aligning diverse stakeholders.
• Familiarity with cloud vendors (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and managing large infrastructure costs.
• A strategic and proactive mindset, with an ability to navigate ambiguity and find efficient solutions.
• Experience with vendor management, contract negotiation, and technical vendor relationships.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with cloud cost observability tools (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer).
• Background working with large-scale consumer platforms or deep familiarity with Discord’s product.
• Prior experience working in technical infrastructure, ML, or data-intensive environments.
