About the Role

Join Discord’s Audio & Video Infrastructure team to architect and scale real-time communication systems. You’ll play a critical role in powering WebRTC-based audio/video systems used by millions globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and scale real-time A/V systems supporting millions of concurrent users
• Optimize performance across media and control layers
• Lead migration to edge computing for lower latency
• Partner with vendors to scale global infrastructure
• Mentor engineering peers and guide architectural decisions
• Support cross-functional feature development and product launches

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years in audio/video infrastructure
• Proficient in Rust, C++, Python, or Elixir
• Strong experience with distributed systems and infrastructure tools (e.g., Terraform)
• Deep understanding of networking fundamentals and protocols
• Proven leadership in technical decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

• Elixir and WebRTC experience
• Familiarity with codecs (H.264, HEVC, AV1) and protocols (RTMP, QUIC, HTTP, UDP)
• Contributions to open-source projects
