About the Role

As a Public Policy Advisor on our Public Policy and Government Relations team, you’ll be instrumental in shaping Discord’s engagement with policymakers, regulators, and key stakeholders in the U.S. and Canada. This role reports directly to the Director of U.S. and Canada Public Policy.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Represent Discord in meetings with policymakers and stakeholders to promote understanding of our vision, platform, and safety initiatives.
• Advocate for Discord’s stance on legislative and regulatory matters, both directly and through coalitions.
• Collaborate with peer companies and civil society organizations in policy coalitions.
• Track, analyze, and report on key policy developments in the U.S. and Canada.
• Prepare and deliver materials such as position papers, talking points, and presentations.
• Work cross-functionally with Legal, Trust & Safety, Communications, and Policy teams to align on goals and share insights.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in government, public policy, or government relations.
• Deep understanding of U.S. policymaking processes.
• Proven ability to lead and execute long-term advocacy strategies.
• Experience with technology policy in areas like privacy, cybersecurity, content moderation, or online safety.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
• Collaborative mindset with experience building consensus among diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel as needed within the U.S.
• Passion for Discord’s mission: To create space for everyone to find belonging.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base Salary: $156,000 – $175,500 (based on experience and qualifications)
