📌 Position Overview

Role: Safety By Design Policy Expert – Developer Platform

Location: Remote (U.S. based only)

Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $192,000 – $216,000 (base) + equity + benefits

Team: Product Policy, reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety By Design Policy

Focus: Building safe-by-design principles into Discord's developer platform (public API, SDKs, third-party ecosystem)

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Risk & Product Strategy Alignment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Legal, Design, etc.) to identify safety risks in developer products and design mitigations directly into product features.
• Policy Ownership
• Lead and manage the Discord Developer Policies, shaping the acceptable use standards of Discord’s API and SDKs in collaboration with Developer Compliance and Legal.
• Ecosystem Understanding
• Build deep product knowledge around Discord’s APIs, SDKs, third-party applications, infrastructure, and internal tools.
• Safety Impact Scoping
• Partner with the Safety XFN team to assess policy and enforcement impacts of product changes and outline operational support requirements.
• Internal & External Education
• Create training materials, talking points, strategies, and presentations to support responsible product development and cross-team understanding.
• User-Facing Communication
• Write clear public content (e.g., blog posts, Help Center articles) to educate users and developers on safety features and responsible use.

🧠 Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience working with APIs, SDKs, app stores, middleware, or other third-party integrations
• Background in trust & safety, responsible product development, or community advocacy—especially protecting marginalized communities
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• Deep interest in understanding and addressing the social impact of online communication platforms
• Comfort working across product, engineering, design, and research teams
• Collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and curiosity to challenge assumptions
