Role Overview

We are seeking a visionary Senior Data Science Manager to lead our Advertising Data Science team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping Discord’s advertising strategy, driving data-driven insights, and optimizing advertiser engagement within our mobile and gaming-centric ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Data Science Analytics for Advertising, you will build and scale a high-performing team that enables advertisers to connect meaningfully with our global community.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a mission-driven team of Data Scientists, delivering measurable impact through advanced analytics and scalable reporting solutions.
• Own the measurement strategy, goals, and learning plans for customer verticals, aligning with advertiser needs and business objectives.
• Design, implement, and evaluate experimental and causal analytics frameworks to improve ad performance and ROI.
• Collaborate with Data, Sales, Product, and Product Marketing teams to refine and enhance Discord’s Ad Product Go-To-Market (GTM) strategy.
• Develop and oversee measurement operations across first- and third-party solutions to ensure robust methodologies and actionable insights.
• Partner with Product Data Science to conduct meta-analyses at the vertical, market, and country levels, developing research-backed advertising efficacy playbooks.
• Build scalable tools and dashboards to deliver actionable insights, empowering confident decision-making.
• Enhance data fluency and measurement competency across teams through training and mentorship initiatives.
• Act as a trusted advisor to key advertisers, fostering strong relationships between Discord, advertisers, and agencies.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in applied Data Science, Advanced Analytics, and Measurement, particularly within mobile apps, gaming, or direct response advertising.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing 5+ Data Scientists.
• Expertise in experiment design, A/B testing, and causal inference methodologies.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python, R, etc.).
• Experience with mobile ad tech and measurement, including attribution logic, identity graphs, ad delivery optimization, and mobile measurement partners (MMPs).
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling, causal modeling, time series analysis, and data mining techniques.
• Experience with modern BI tools (Hex, Mode, Looker, Tableau) to create insightful visualizations.
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities and drive impactful results in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with the digital advertising ecosystem, including campaign measurement and performance optimization.

Bonus Points

• Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience working with global advertisers in mobile gaming, commerce, or real-money gaming.
• Proficiency in machine learning models for forecasting, targeting, or personalization in advertising.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (BigQuery, AWS, etc.).
• Knowledge of data governance and compliance practices related to advertising.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Passion for Discord’s online communities and a track record of engagement within the platform.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $263,000 - $289,500 (base salary) + equity + benefits.
• Compensation is determined based on role, level, job-related skills, experience, and education.
