About the Role

Gaming is central to Discord — with over 200 million monthly users and 1.5 billion gaming hours logged monthly, we are where players connect before, during, and after games.

We’re expanding our platform to make it easier for developers to build, launch, and distribute games directly on Discord. As a Senior Developer Advocate, you'll play a key role in supporting, educating, and inspiring our fast-growing developer community. You'll create meaningful relationships, represent developer voices internally, and bring new energy to our gaming ecosystem.

What You'll Be Doing

• Serve as the voice of developers, driving improvements across Discord’s developer platform.
• Write high-quality technical documentation, craft best practices, and develop sample projects.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Marketing teams to highlight innovative apps, surface developer needs, and grow the game development ecosystem.
• Host community events, technical workshops, and deliver talks to attract and educate developers.
• Become a subject matter expert on Discord’s APIs and developer platform capabilities.
• Capture developer feedback, deliver actionable insights to product teams, and influence the platform roadmap.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years in developer advocacy, software engineering, or a similar technical role.
• Hands-on experience building games or game development tools.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and simply to a variety of audiences.
• Strong understanding of API design and development best practices.
• Proficiency with at least one major game engine/platform: Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, etc.
• Data-driven mindset with experience setting goals and measuring performance.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Confident public speaking abilities — from small workshops to large conferences.
• Passion for creating documentation that empowers developers.

Bonus Points

• Previous experience in a Developer Advocacy role.
• Knowledge of web gaming technologies like Unity WebGL, Phaser, or platforms like itch.io.
• Experience with TypeScript, React, or the web development stack.
• Familiarity with Discord APIs and bot development.
• Proficiency in Mandarin or Korean.
