As Senior Engineering Manager for Discord’s Messaging Team, I lead the strategy, execution, and evolution of the platform’s most essential feature—how users communicate. Messaging is the beating heart of Discord, with over 200 million monthly users and 1.5 billion hours of game time supported. I work cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data Science, UX Research, and Marketing to shape the vision, prioritize roadmaps, and ensure efficient, high-quality delivery of new features that meaningfully impact user experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive vision and roadmap for the Messaging Team, leading strategy and execution across a highly cross-functional group.
• Set high standards for engineering quality, feature design, and team velocity while making thoughtful trade-offs around resources and timelines.
• Actively contribute to product decisions and opportunity sizing in partnership with PMs and Designers.
• Mentor and grow a high-performing team of 8+ engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and personal development.
• Engage hands-on when needed—whether pulling data, writing specs, or reviewing code—to unblock progress and improve outcomes.
• Partner with the Director of Core Product to shape strategic plans and contribute to broader engineering and organizational goals.

What I Bring:

• 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience with expertise in frontend architecture and emerging patterns.
• 3+ years of engineering management experience with proven success leading product-focused teams in high-scale consumer environments.
• Strong product intuition and a deep understanding of social communication systems.
• Active familiarity with Discord and an appreciation for how communities thrive through quality messaging experiences.
• A growth mindset, adaptability, and a bias toward action—willing to fill any gap that needs filling.
• Track record of delivering delightful, high-impact user experiences that drive core metrics.

Bonus:

• Experience with React or React Native
• Background in building or scaling real-time communication tools
• Demonstrated success in metrics-driven consumer product environments
