Coinbase is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead mission-critical engineering teams supporting the growth of its Institutional Derivatives Exchange. This role is pivotal in building and scaling ultra-low-latency systems such as matching engines, order management systems, risk engines, and market data gateways. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership and at least 2 years managing other managers, ideally within crypto, fintech, or capital markets.

Responsibilities include:

• Leading teams responsible for real-time, high-throughput trading systems.
• Defining technical roadmaps, architectural decisions, and operational excellence strategies.
• Collaborating cross-functionally across engineering, product, and design to deliver scalable solutions.
• Recruiting, mentoring, and growing top-tier engineering talent.
• Contributing to Coinbase's mission of increasing economic freedom by building secure, scalable financial infrastructure.

Key requirements:

• Proven experience building 24/7 financial systems (e.g., exchanges, OMS, risk management).
• Background in crypto, derivatives, or financial markets.
• Strong hands-on technical acumen in distributed systems.
• Familiarity with both cloud-based and on-prem infrastructure.
• Deep commitment to Coinbase’s values and fast-paced, high-accountability culture.

Compensation:

$253,895 – $298,700 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
