🧭 Role Overview

Title: Senior Engineering Manager – Institutional (Exchange)

Location: Remote, Canada

Team: Institutional Derivatives Exchange

You’ll lead the development of ultra-low latency, mission-critical systems supporting Coinbase’s global crypto derivatives business.

🛠️ Responsibilities

• Lead and scale teams responsible for submillisecond trading systems:
• Matching engines
• Order management
• Risk engines
• Market data & gateways
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape the technical roadmap and product vision.
• Drive architectural decisions and high-quality engineering standards.
• Foster a culture of operational excellence, reliability, and accountability.
• Coach and grow direct reports; manage managers.
• Partner with Talent to recruit exceptional engineers.
• Own and refine engineering processes to meet SLA targets.

✅ Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering; 5+ years in engineering management (including 2 years managing managers).
• Experience building 24/7 financial trading systems (esp. crypto or derivatives).
• Proven leadership of complex distributed systems at scale.
• Able to get hands-on when necessary (code reviews, incident response, on-call, etc.).
• Strong execution mindset, capable of balancing long-term vision with short-term planning.
• Passion for building an open financial system.

• Experience running exchanges at global scale.
• Deep Operating Systems or networking expertise.
• Experience with cloud + on-prem infrastructure.

💵 Compensation

• Base Salary: $260,100 CAD
• Includes bonus + equity + full benefits package
