Senior Engineering Manager - Platform

🔹 Role Overview

• Position: Senior Engineering Manager – Platform
• Location: Remote (United States), with required in-person offsite participation
• Type: Full-time
• Salary Range: $236,725 – $278,500 USD + target bonus + equity + full benefits
• Team: Platform Product Group

🔹 Mission of the Role

Lead and scale high-performing engineering teams within the Platform Product Group, which is responsible for creating trusted, scalable, and compliant systems that power Coinbase’s core infrastructure. You’ll help accelerate development velocity and ensure quality and consistency across Coinbase products.

🔹 Responsibilities

• Manage and grow engineering teams, including managing other managers (EMs).
• Guide the design and development of multi-tenant infrastructure, platforms, and tools.
• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and senior leadership to define and execute quarterly roadmaps.
• Own end-to-end delivery and operations of distributed systems at scale.
• Foster engineering excellence via architecture reviews, code quality practices, and operational rigor.
• Mentor engineers and managers, supporting their technical and career growth.
• Collaborate with talent partners to recruit top-tier engineers aligned with Coinbase values.
• Own and evolve technical processes to improve platform reliability and team velocity.

🔹 Requirements

• Experience:
• 10+ years in software engineering
• 5+ years of engineering management experience
• 2+ years managing other engineering managers
• Technical Skills:
• Proven record of building and scaling distributed systems
• Comfortable contributing hands-on when needed (e.g. code reviews, incidents)
• Deep understanding of engineering SLAs, incident management, and system architecture
• Leadership Capabilities:
• Strong execution mindset — can deliver amid ambiguity
• Balances long-term platform vision with short-term impact
• Excels in fostering a high-performing, feedback-driven culture
