🧭 Role Scope & Responsibilities

This role centers on foundational user experience and design systems that support core Discord experiences—text, voice, video, and user settings. You'll be the lead designer on cross-functional teams responsible for how millions of users hang out and communicate.

🔍 Core Responsibilities:

• Act as design lead within a cross-functional EPAD (Engineering, Product, Analytics, Design) pod.
• Own the end-to-end product design cycle, from research and wireframes to high-fidelity mocks and final implementation QA.
• Actively shape product strategy through design explorations, documentation, and leadership-level presentations.
• Maintain and evolve contributions to Discord’s Design System for scalable visual and UX consistency.
• Prototype interactions (e.g., via Figma, Framer, Protopie) to convey user journeys and interface behavior.
• Champion product usability, design quality, and consistent execution across desktop and mobile.

🧠 Ideal Candidate Profile

✅ Requirements:

• 5+ years in UX/Product Design for consumer tech (ideally social or communication platforms).
• Lead designer on major projects for both desktop and mobile apps.
• Mastery of Figma and a prototyping tool (e.g., Protopie, Origami, Framer).
• Strong visual polish and craft focus: able to create delightful UI and meaningful user flows.
• Experience working with (and contributing to) design systems.
• Strong communicator: capable of presenting work to executives and guiding product discussions with PMs and engineers.

➕ Bonus Points:

• Heavy user of Discord, especially within the gaming community.
• Familiarity with voice/video chat UI/UX, platform personalization, or social UX.
• Experience with shipping core utility features (e.g., settings, chat formatting, UX scaffolding).
