📌 Position Overview

Role: Senior Regulatory Counsel

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands (or London, UK)

Type: Full-time

Team: Legal – Regulatory Compliance

Reports To: VP & Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory Compliance

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Regulatory Engagement & Strategy
• Lead Discord’s response to regulatory inquiries (EU, UK, Australia).
• Prepare written responses, collect internal data, and represent Discord's interests.
• Regulatory Presentations
• Meet with regulatory bodies to communicate Discord’s compliance approaches.
• Present proactive narratives on topics such as safety and moderation.
• Policy & Product Support
• Collaborate with Product Counsel on legal compliance for product changes.
• Contribute to Discord’s safety communications with Public Policy & Comms teams.
• Monitoring & Anticipating Risk
• Track regulatory changes (DSA, UK/AU Online Safety Acts, GDPR, etc.).
• Assess potential risks and advise leadership on enforcement exposure.
• Content Development
• Maintain current legal content (templates, narratives) across privacy, safety, and data policies.
• Optional/Extended Duties
• Help manage consumer complaints and defensive litigation depending on capacity and interest.

🧠 What You Should Bring

• Experience:
• 10+ years in regulatory legal work (focus on internet/content moderation/user safety/data protection).
• Previous work with companies in social media, gaming, messaging, or content industries.
• Prior engagement with regulators in the UK, EU, or Australia (e.g., OFCOM, eSafety Commissioner, EU Commission).
• Legal Knowledge:
• Expertise in:
• EU Digital Services Act
• UK & AU Online Safety Acts
• GDPR, AI Act, consumer protection, privacy, safety, platform regulation
• Skills & Attributes:
• Strong project and stakeholder management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strategic, proactive, emotionally intelligent, and solutions-driven.
• A legal license in a relevant jurisdiction.

• Background in litigation is helpful
