📌 Position Overview

Role: Senior Technical Program Manager (TPM) – Cost & Efficiency

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (onsite or relocation required)

Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $196,000 – $220,000 base + equity + benefits

Team: Cross-functional, working with Infrastructure, Data, Machine Learning, Engineering, and Product teams

✅ Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Cost Optimization:
• Collaborate with infrastructure, data, and ML teams to identify, track, and implement cost-saving strategies across Discord’s platform.
• Data Query Cost Reduction:
• Partner with data science and data engineering teams to analyze and reduce query and analysis expenses.
• Cost-to-Serve Analysis:
• Work with engineering and product leaders to assess the cost of key features, providing insights to inform decision-making.
• Cost Attribution Platform:
• Help design and build scalable platforms for cost metadata collection, observability, and alerting.
• Capacity Management:
• Lead capacity planning with cloud vendors to ensure efficient resource use and cost alignment.
• Product Team Support:
• Act as a consultant to product teams, helping them understand cost implications of new features and deployments.
• Vendor Management:
• Manage vendor relationships, negotiations, and accounts, particularly with cloud service providers.

🧠 What You Should Have

• Strong data analysis skills, including dashboard and visualization building to track costs and identify savings.
• Proven experience managing cost-related programs at mid-scale or larger companies, with demonstrable impact.
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally across engineering, product, and data teams.
• Strategic thinker who can analyze complex cost structures and provide scalable solutions.
• Experience managing cloud vendor relationships (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Results-driven, proactive problem solver comfortable navigating ambiguity.
