The Institutional product group powers Coinbase’s institutional business, supporting thousands of large financial institutions by enabling secure digital asset custody and participation in the crypto economy. The Institutional Staking Engineering team is responsible for managing billions of dollars in staked digital assets across multiple blockchain networks. By unlocking institutional staking, we enhance the security, decentralization, and resilience of blockchain networks while enabling institutions to earn yield on their assets.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop & Scale Backend Systems – Design and maintain backend services that power institutional staking infrastructure.
• Architect Scalable Solutions – Define a long-term vision for scaling Coinbase’s institutional staking infrastructure.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally – Work with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to execute product and technical roadmaps.
• Write High-Quality Code – Deliver well-tested, efficient, and scalable backend solutions.

What We Look For

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services in a service-oriented architecture.
• Passion for crypto and blockchain technology as a means to revolutionize finance.
• Strong skills in backend development, including experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or Redshift.

Nice to Have

• Experience in high-growth environments (e.g., startups scaling to mid-size).
• Background in blockchain technologies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and staking mechanisms.
• Experience decomposing monolithic applications into microservices.
• Previous work in financial, high-reliability, or security-focused systems.
• Familiarity with onchain activity (e.g., interacting with Ethereum addresses, ENS, dApps, and blockchain-based services).
