Staff Blockchain Security Architect - EMEA - United Kingdom

Job Overview:

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Blockchain Security Architect to join their growing Blockchain Security (BlockSec) team. This team is tasked with ensuring the security of blockchain interactions, protocols, smart contracts, and more as the company scales globally. The role involves collaborating with engineering teams to secure Coinbase's platform and working with cutting-edge blockchain technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Security Assessments & Threat Modeling:
• Conduct security assessments and threat modeling for blockchain protocols, smart contracts, and other distributed ledger technologies.
• Analyze and evaluate assets for security risks and vulnerabilities.
• Collaboration with Engineering:
• Work with product and engineering teams to secure internal smart contract development and blockchain protocols.
• Advise on architecture and coding practices for security-critical backend systems.
• Tooling and Automation:
• Drive the roadmap for Coinbase’s internal blockchain security tools and collaborate with tooling teams to enhance platform security.
• Identify opportunities for automation in security tooling and processes.
• Blockchain Innovation & Research:
• Stay informed on emerging blockchain protocols and innovations (e.g., zk-SNARKs, zero-knowledge proofs, and other novel technologies).
• Perform deep research on impactful blockchain changes and upgrades.
• Mentorship & Leadership:
• Provide leadership and mentorship to team members.
• Effectively communicate security risks and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Community Engagement:
• Publish blogs and give talks on blockchain security topics.
• Present findings on vulnerabilities, security risks, and integration challenges within blockchain systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience:
• 8+ years in blockchain, with at least 4 years in blockchain security.
• Extensive experience in architecture and threat modeling for crypto systems.
• Technical Expertise:
• Strong understanding of blockchains, particularly EVM chains (e.g., Ethereum).
• Familiar with blockchain activities like DEXs, NFTs, bridging, and smart contracts.
• Experience with crypto custodians, common vulnerabilities, and security risks.
• Additional Skills:
• Knowledge of zk-SNARKs, FHE, MPC, and other cryptographic innovations.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Knowledge of non-EVM blockchain security architecture.
• In-depth understanding of emerging cryptographic technologies.

Compensation:

• Salary Range: £138,600 - £154,000 GBP
• Additional Benefits: Target bonus, equity, medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
