Role: Staff Site Reliability Engineer (SRE – Platform)

Salary: $211,650 – $249,000 USD/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Overview

Coinbase is hiring a Staff SRE to help build and scale the reliability layer of its Web3 infrastructure. You’ll work cross-functionally with engineering teams to embed best practices in observability, performance, automation, and fault tolerance. This role is about driving reliability as a core engineering value through mentorship, tooling, and direct ownership of critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Improve observability, availability, and incident response processes
• Automate operations, reduce toil, and enhance performance
• Optimize cloud infrastructure (Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS, etc.)
• Collaborate with product and platform teams on reliable service delivery
• Educate and guide engineers across the org in building reliable systems
• Participate in high-severity incident response and on-call rotation
• Write clean, tested code and review design docs across services

Requirements

• 7+ years in software engineering with a focus on reliability or infra
• Deep knowledge of SOA, distributed systems, debugging, and observability
• Experience with performance tuning and high-availability systems
• Strong communication and mentorship skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with Datadog, Kibana, Terraform, Go, Ruby
• Crypto-forward background (ENS, dApps, Ethereum, etc.)
• Past work in regulated or hypergrowth environments
