🚀 Position Summary

Title: Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer – Growth)

Location: Remote – U.S.

Type: Full-time

Compensation:

• Base salary: $218,025 – $256,500 USD/year
• Plus: Target bonus, equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k))

🧩 Team Overview: Growth (Consumer)

The Growth team at Coinbase is responsible for building products and infrastructure that attract, onboard, and retain users at scale. You’ll work on features like:

• Referrals & incentives
• Notifications systems
• Logged-out web experience (SEO/marketing tech)
• User onboarding flows
• A/B testing and experimentation systems

🔧 What You’ll Be Doing

• Architect & build scalable distributed systems for consumer-facing features
• Lead foundational infrastructure initiatives used across all Coinbase teams (e.g., notifications services, deep-linking, SEO layers)
• Collaborate cross-functionally to define roadmaps, scope projects, and meet deadlines
• Mentor other engineers and elevate team-wide engineering standards
• Write and maintain high-quality, well-tested backend code

✅ What They’re Looking For

Minimum Requirements:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience (ideally backend-focused)
• Proven ability to architect solutions from scratch and drive them to production
• Strong alignment with Coinbase’s mission (economic freedom via crypto)

Preferred/Bonus Experience:

• Built and launched new products from 0 to 1
• Hands-on experience with growth tools (e.g., A/B testing, retention/activation analytics)
• Familiarity with:
• Blockchain concepts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, smart contracts)
• Onchain activity (ENS, wallets, dApps, gas fees, etc.)
• Tech stack: Golang, Ruby/Rails, Docker, Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB
• Background in fintech, security-sensitive, or highly available systems
