Overview

Coinbase is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to help re-architect and scale its global Payments Platform, which supports hundreds of billions in transaction volume across countries and financial systems. You'll be part of a high-impact India-based team responsible for building reliable and scalable payment infrastructure using Golang, Java, and modern cloud-native tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and build backend services for payment flows (deposits, withdrawals, trades, etc.)
• Develop reliable systems with a focus on availability, scalability, and security
• Collaborate with global teams to define roadmaps and deliver platform-wide initiatives
• Own high-impact projects from design through deployment
• Write production-grade, well-tested code and debug complex distributed systems
• Contribute to Coinbase’s long-term technical vision for payments infrastructure

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience
• Deep understanding of service-oriented architecture (SOA)
• Experience with Golang, Java, or similar languages
• Strong system design, debugging, and communication skills
• Passion for financial systems and crypto

Nice to Haves

• Blockchain experience (Ethereum, Bitcoin)
• Familiarity with Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB
• Experience with A/B testing and growth experimentation
• Worked at fast-scaling startups
