Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Platform) – Coinbase (Remote, U.S.)

Salary Range: $218,025 - $256,500 USD + bonus + equity + benefits

Role Overview:

Join Coinbase’s Platform Product Group, responsible for building foundational infrastructure that supports multiple products and teams. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be a key technical leader driving large-scale architecture and mentoring engineers, while delivering scalable, secure, and reliable backend systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and build distributed backend systems and foundational infrastructure (e.g., config management, secrets storage, container orchestration).
• Lead technical strategy and collaborate with management and stakeholders on roadmaps.
• Manage project priorities and deadlines with strong technical ownership.
• Mentor and guide engineers on design and coding best practices.
• Write high-quality, tested production code.

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proven track record solving complex, ambiguous problems with large impact.
• Passionate about open financial systems and crypto innovation.

Nice to Have:

• Experience scaling engineering teams rapidly.
• Experience breaking down monoliths into microservices.
• Experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Sinatra, Postgres.
• Familiarity with crypto and blockchain technologies (e.g., Ethereum, ENS, dApps).
• Background in financial, secure, or high-reliability systems.
