Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Platform)

Location: Canada (Remote)

Salary: Around $217,800 CAD/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Role Overview:

Join Coinbase’s Platform Product Group to architect and build foundational infrastructure powering multiple products and teams. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll combine hands-on coding with technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic roadmap planning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and build distributed backend systems and infrastructure components (e.g., config management, secrets storage, container orchestration).
• Collaborate with management and stakeholders on technical direction and strategic roadmaps.
• Manage project priorities and deadlines leveraging technical expertise.
• Mentor engineers on design and coding best practices.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code aligned with customer needs.

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years software engineering experience.
• Experience solving ambiguous, high-impact technical problems.
• Passion for building an open financial system.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience scaling companies rapidly (startup to hundreds of engineers).
• Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
• Familiarity with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or secure systems.
• Crypto/blockchain knowledge, including Ethereum, ENS, dApps.
