Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Platform - Risk Platform)

Role Overview:

Join the Risk Platform team at Coinbase to design and build scalable, intelligent, and resilient systems that help proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks. This role is critical for ensuring the platform’s security and protecting users' assets. You'll architect distributed systems, collaborate on strategic roadmaps, and mentor junior engineers. Your work will help Coinbase fight fraud and enhance trust in its platform.

Responsibilities:

• Architect & Develop Systems: Build distributed systems that address security and fraud prevention challenges.
• Lead Projects: Manage deadlines, priorities, and deliverables, contributing your technical expertise.
• Mentor Engineers: Guide and train team members on design techniques and best coding practices.
• Design Infrastructure Components: Work on foundational systems (e.g., dynamic configuration, secrets storage, container orchestration).
• Write High-Quality Code: Develop well-tested code that meets internal needs.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Proven ability to architect solutions for ambiguous, high-impact problems
• Passion for building an open financial system and contributing to the crypto ecosystem

Nice to Have:

• Experience in financial systems, security, or fraud prevention
• Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, and Postgres experience
• Knowledge of onchain activity (e.g., Ethereum, ENS, dApps)
• Experience with scaling systems or decomposing monoliths into microservices
