About the Role: The Machine Learning Platform (MLP) at Discord is responsible for the end-to-end model lifecycle across all ML applications. We work at the intersection of machine learning engineers, core infrastructure, and ML consumers to provide tools, capabilities, and services that make machine learning easy, safe, and widely accessible. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of ML infrastructure, helping Discord scale its machine learning capabilities efficiently. You will collaborate with ML practitioners, data scientists, and platform engineers to ensure a smooth path from model development to production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and build the ML platform that supports ML engineers and data scientists in delivering impactful models to Discord’s users.
• Evaluate and integrate new machine learning frameworks and tools, keeping Discord at the forefront of AI advancements, including LLMs and generative AI.
• Collaborate with ML teams to streamline the process from experimentation to deployment.
• Define and implement best practices for ML operations at Discord.
• Develop and maintain foundational datasets, tools, and services that support ML workloads.

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer in data or backend systems, working with large datasets or distributed systems.
• 4+ years of experience working on platforms or infrastructure.
• 2+ years of experience working on machine learning platforms.
• Experience with orchestration systems such as Airflow, Dagster, or Argo.
• Proven ability to deploy and maintain machine learning models in production environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with real-time data processing technologies like Spark, Flink, Dataflow, Kafka, or Pulsar.
• Hands-on experience debugging and maintaining live production systems on Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with ML model development using modern frameworks.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary Range: $246,000 - $270,400 (U.S. base salary, exclusive of equity and benefits)
