Staff Software Engineer – UI/UX Specialist

📌 Role Overview

Discord is hiring a Staff Software Engineer – UI/UX Specialist for a remote, full-time position based in the United States. This senior-level role focuses on building beautiful, responsive, and highly interactive user interfaces across Discord’s web and mobile platforms. You’ll be a key player in shaping the front-end architecture and visual experience of Discord, reporting to a leader on the Core Product team.

✅ Key Responsibilities

• UI Design Implementation: Translate complex design ideas into high-quality, pixel-perfect UI using React and React Native. Focus on delightful interactions and smooth animations.
• Front-End Engineering: Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code. Champion best practices in performance and accessibility.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Design, Product, and Marketing teams to align user experience with business needs. Contribute both as an independent designer and as an engineer implementing others’ designs.
• Technical Leadership: Set coding standards, mentor fellow engineers, and influence front-end architectural decisions. Advocate for UI/UX excellence across Discord.

🧠 Required Experience & Skills

• 8+ years of experience in front-end development, creating user-centric web and/or mobile applications
• Deep React expertise, with experience building complex interfaces and eagerness to work in React Native
• Strong visual design sensibility and ability to create aesthetically compelling and user-friendly interfaces
• Demonstrated experience with web animations and creating micro-interactions that enhance UX
• A portfolio of work showing live demos, GitHub repos, or design examples with UI, animation, and design systems
• Strong knowledge of web performance and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG compliance)
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional teams

💰 Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $248,000 – $279,000 USD (excluding equity and benefits)
