Role Overview:

As the Engineering Manager of the Risk Platform team at Coinbase, you will be responsible for shaping the multi-year strategy for Risk engineering, providing technical leadership, and supporting your team in making sound architectural decisions. You will work closely with product teams, senior leadership, and your engineers to build the platforms that will protect both Coinbase and its users from financial threats. You will also play a crucial role in growing the team by attracting top-tier engineering talent and fostering a culture of high-quality software engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership: Implement the multi-year strategy for the Risk engineering team, guiding technical leadership across your team.
• Team Management: Coach and mentor your direct reports, helping them navigate their careers and ensuring they have a positive impact on the organization.
• Technical Leadership: Support your team in making architectural decisions and being a thoughtful technical voice.
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn the company’s vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap.
• Talent Acquisition: Partner with the talent team to hire engineers who will expand and strengthen Coinbase’s culture and product.
• Driving Engineering Quality: Own and deliver processes to ensure high-quality engineering and meet critical engineering SLAs.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience: At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, including 2 years in engineering management.
• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of high-quality code and software engineering processes, with the ability to foster an environment focused on these principles.
• Execution-Focused: Able to navigate ambiguity and deliver results in both long-term strategic thinking and short-term planning.
• Experience at Scale: Proven experience in creating, delivering, and operating distributed systems at scale, particularly multi-tenanted ones.
• Hands-On Leadership: Willingness to be hands-on when necessary, whether it's reviewing code, participating in on-call rotations, troubleshooting bugs, or writing technical documents.
• Passion for Crypto: A passion for building an open financial system that brings the world together, which drives you to excel in this role.

Nice to Haves:

• Financial Systems Experience: Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
• Fraud Prevention: Exposure to online fraud prevention systems or building such systems in the past is a plus.

Pay Transparency Notice:

Depending on your location, the target annual salary for this position ranges from $218,025 - $256,500 USD. Full-time offers also include target bonuses, equity, and benefits (such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
