About the Role

Slack’s Data Orchestration Team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and enhance our real-time data processing and orchestration systems. Our team is responsible for managing 65PB+ of storage, processing ~900B records daily, and maintaining 400+ ETL pipelines and 1300+ Airflow DAGs. As we continue to scale, we need a highly skilled engineer to optimize data ingestion, workflow orchestration, and analytics solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop & maintain real-time analytics and low-latency data access layers using modern OLAP solutions.
• Optimize workflow automation for data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration processes.
• Ensure high data quality & reliability through monitoring, validation, and failure detection.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance data infrastructure scalability.
• Design & implement scalable services to improve data pipeline efficiency.
• Lead & mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and best practices.

Qualifications

✅ 5+ years experience in data engineering or infrastructure with a focus on large-scale systems.

✅ Expertise in Airflow or similar workflow orchestration tools.

✅ Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred).

✅ Strong background in ETL pipeline development, data processing, and big data frameworks.

✅ Proficiency in Python, Java, Scala, or equivalent programming languages.

✅ Experience with OLAP solutions like Apache Pinot or Apache Druid (preferred).

✅ Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and cloud-native deployment tools.

✅ Ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and scale data processing systems.

✅ Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for driving data-driven decisions.
