Staff Data Scientist (Crunchbase Signals Team)

The Signals Team at Crunchbase:
The Crunchbase Signals team is dedicated to delivering insights and predictions for our users, enhancing their Crunchbase experience through machine learning and data-driven solutions. We use a blend of private, behavioral, and machine learning systems to identify valuable insights, delivering personalized experiences to users.
We are currently seeking a Staff Data Scientist to shape and build out our intelligence layer. This role requires a creative innovator, an excellent communicator, and someone with strong hands-on skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about data, understands its potential, and is dedicated to improving user experiences with valuable insights and tailored recommendations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Data-Driven Culture Empowerment: Develop tools and processes that enable engineers and product teams to efficiently query and analyze data.
- Scale ML Algorithms: Assist data scientists in implementing NLP and ML algorithms at scale, ensuring the architecture is fault-tolerant and highly available.
- Technical Leadership: Contribute to the design of key components in our data platform, balancing business needs with technical solutions.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of growth, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product teams, data scientists, and other engineers to integrate solutions and support our datatech ecosystem.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices, recommending new tools to enhance data capabilities.
- Communication: Simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders to drive understanding and collaboration.
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as required to support team goals.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues simply.
- Experience: Proven experience with dimensional data modeling, ETL pipeline development, and system architecture.
- Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Python, SQL, and tools like pandas.
- NLP and ML Implementation: Experience implementing NLP and ML algorithms in production environments.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership experience with mentoring and guiding teams.
- Tools Proficiency: Familiarity with cloud platforms, data warehousing technologies, and Google Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience: 6+ years of professional experience in engineering, working with Python, SQL, and related technologies.
