The EMV & Digital Devices Team is seeking a cryptographer to join the security team responsible for designing and architecting cryptographic solutions for Mastercard’s innovative payment technologies. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, intellectually curious, and analytical individual with a passion for creating impactful payment solutions on a global scale.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate in a small team responsible for the cryptography and security of Mastercard chip card applications, including support for mobile and cloud technologies.
- Perform ongoing risk analysis for chip card payments on a global scale, balancing security and ease-of-use while considering evolving technical and regulatory factors.
- Design and maintain security requirements and solutions to mitigate payment fraud risks, whether actual or anticipated, ensuring adaptability to a global ecosystem with diverse payment methods and regional regulations.
- Work as part of a broader chip team to develop payment solutions through their full lifecycle—from ideation to proof-of-concept development, security evaluation, and commercialization.
- Deliver specifications and documentation to help customers and partners develop and deploy best-in-class payment solutions.
- Act as an ambassador for Mastercard’s payment solutions, providing insights to internal teams and engaging with industry experts.
- Represent Mastercard in global discussions on payment security, particularly through organizations like EMVCo, contributing to the international standardization of cryptography for payments.
All About You:
- A university degree in Mathematics or Computer Science, with a preference for MSc or PhD qualifications.
- Proficiency in research-level cryptography, including RSA, ECC, and PQC.
- A strong understanding of random number generation, probability theory, quantum physics, and quantum computing.
- Programming experience, ideally with smart card or HSM cryptography, and exposure to quality engineering processes.
- Knowledge or experience with network infrastructure and technology is a plus.
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written, with excellent presentation and communication skills, including experience collaborating with business stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to work with diverse cross-functional teams and external partners in a global setting.
- Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a global team to solve technical challenges in a fast-paced, evolving industry.
- Willing to travel internationally as required.
